Structures of the heart - Diagrams
Interpretation of Results:
The ventricles where much larger than the auricles in size, the muscle wall of the right and left ventricles where much thicker compared to the wall and muscle thickness of the auricles. This is because the blood comes through the veins into the auricles. The muscle of the auricles would only need to push the blood downwards towards the ventricles, while the ventricles have to pump the blood all throughout the body. The left ventricle was much larger then the right ventricle, and the wall muscle was thicker in the left ventricle because blood from the right ventricle goes to the lungs while the blood from the left ventricle supplies the whole body and some of the blood goes against gravity requiring a larger force (i.e. the blood going to the brain). The different heart valves are important because valves prevent the back flow of blood back to the different regions of the heart.
